With global dominance and a broad market reach, the Pharmaceutical industry in the U.S is booming. From consumption to pharmaceutical product development, the United States unquestionably leads the way. In the U.S, there are around 88,000 pharmacies. Over half of them (around 48,000) are in drug stores, grocery stores, hospitals, department stores, medical clinics, surgery clinics, universities, nursing homes, jails, and other facilities. The remainder of the pharmacies is deemed independent or privately operated. The top 25 pharmacy chain businesses have around 38,000 drugstore locations in the United States and employ approximately 149,000 on-staff pharmacists. California has the most pharmacies in any state, with 8,015 in operation. The top five states for drugstore locations are Texas, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania. Between 2007 and 2015, the number of community pharmacies increased by 6.3% nationwide, but the number of pharmacies per 10,000 population remained constant. In 2015, the number of pharmacies per capita varied significantly across counties, ranging from 0 to 13.6 per 10,000 inhabitants.
